Default 2005 eiger 400 fan stays on

Anytime I turn the key to on, the oil cooling fan comes on, even when the engine is not on. Never did this before riding yesterday. What can be causing this, how can I test it, and how bad is this? I mean, the fan does work, and most of the issues I see are with the fan not working, im concerned about wearing the fan out or draining the battery...

There are two temperature sender units on the Eiger engine, both near the oil filter. The one for the fan has two wires sticking out that go to a white connector tied to a frame down tube below the fan. Disconnect this connector and see if the fan stops, if it does, you need a new temp sender unit. If it doesn’t, you have two wires shorted together in the loom.
