Default LT230 Idle Jet Cleaner

This is a WYPO Tip Cleaner I used to clean my Idle Jet.

The Tip Cleaner I used had a tip cleaner 77-76 and yes that's smaller then the 75-74 sounds weird I know.

I also have another WYPO Cleaner and the smallest Tip it has is 75-74 and that wont go threw the Idle Jet.Hope this helps.

well I am getting closer, I have a few more questions if anyone can help. what level should the float be set on this LT230E? I have it at 24.5MM but it still won't idle with the choke off. . my book shows the settings for the G and S model carb. but not the E. also what size pilot jet? again book doesn't say anything. I have used a 17.5 and a 20 20 seems a little better as far as hesitation when revving with the choke on. also what kind of warn up time should I give it before trying to adjust the air/ fuel screw, and idle screw.
thanks
joe

I would adjuat it like the s model, level with the edge of the bowl. let it warm up before adjusting the mixture and idle, with the choke off. Adjust your misture until you have the highest idle, then adjust your idle screw.

well... that didn't work . when I tried to set the float height to the S model spec's (20.8-22.8mm) the float tops out on the carb body around 23mm.

Just saw this thread. As for the carb hose routing, I believe the drain tube coming from the bottom of the carb bowl is what normally routs back behind the motor in front of the swing arm. It only has gas coming out of it when you loosen the drain bolt to drain the carb. I would NOT run the vent hose there if I were you. it should be high and dry (under the gas tank) IMO. I'd hate to go through deep water knowing my vent hose was submerged. Unilke the drain hose, water can go straight into your carb through that.

The plastic piece in the bowl, I believe, may have been added in '88. I'm not sure it was present in the first year of this bike (I could be wrong. We have both '87 and '88 models of this bike. Both of our '87's did not have it, but it could have been removed. Our '88 did.) At any rate, it's not a critical part. I believe it is supposed to act as a splash guard and help keep the pickup in the wet stuff if your riding through rough stuff and the fuel in your carb is sloshing around. Basically, it helps prevent air bubbles from going through the main jet. Again, it's not critical. I've never noticed a difference in bikes running with or without it.

As for cleaning your carb, get some Chem-Dip. You can get a gallon of it from Walmat. It has a tray in it that you can use to submerge your carburetor. It is very strong and cleans EVERYTHING inside the carb. Make sure you dissasemble the carb first and remove any plastic or rubber parts. Don't put those parts in the Chem-Dip. Read the can for how long to leave it in there. Even the aluminum and brass pieces you don't want to leave in there too long. Like I said, it's STRONG stuff.

Burnpile is right on with the mixture adjustment proceedure.

Try looking at the picture in the lt230s Vault. That is the best way to get an idea of where to set your float. I've never heard of that measurement for the float, but I set mine according to the instructions and pictures on that website.

Give it a try, can't hurt.
