The variator does NOT ACT AS A CLUTCH. That is done by the centrifugal one which is the ONLY clutch apart from the one way "clutches". Yamaha has exactly the same system on the Grizzly, only cheapos like Can-Am use the belt to de-clutch the drive. Those brake shoes sit on the crankshaft. The drum and variator input shaft runs on a one way clutch round the end of the crank but is supported by a bearing outboard of that and the bearing outboard of the front pulley.

Wow didn't mean to offend anyone. I have had to dig deeper and it is the clutch shoe that is giving me trouble. The shoes have wore down to metal and scarred the housing they ride in. All is off and waiting on parts to go back togethor. Any suggestions on holding the clutch shoe to tighten it. Got the old one off by wedging it but don't want to screw the new one up going back on

That's where I'm at with it but the video skips the part for torquing the nut down. Thanks a lot for the vid though I couldn't find one I needed. I may call local dealer see if they have a suggestion
