Default RM/KX80 rear shock on an LT80

I have seen a little bit of discussion on this but not a definitive answer. It appears to me that some RM/KX 80 shocks will fit on an LT80 with out any mods.... My kid is about 50 lbs and when he land it is not pretty the stock shocks do not even move ..... I have the tires at 3 psi but he still bounces all around. I would like the quad to absorb some of the energy. I also would like to try ans stay away from any heavy modifications to the rear of the bike if possible. Thanks in advance for the help

Ask Dirtdevil101. His rear shock mod is about the best I've seen.

Well...it's a clevis style, but it's also made for a linkage setup...that means the leverage ratios are very different from a non-linkage setup...and may make it much stiffer than you were hoping for...

My solution was to use a Fox Float MXR shock...there is some modification that needs to be performed (most certainly not "heavy", but then again that's a matter of perspective)...the MXR shock is not a clevis style, but it is the correct length and is full featured (compression/rebound/rebuildable) and is actually made for a mini...

The attached pics show the required conversion...you need to cut out the clevis mount and drill/weld in supports for the bottom eye...

Thanks for the input and pics! I ran across a Suzuki DS80 shock used that is adjustable to a certain extent I am going to attempt to mount it without any modifications since it almost the same as an XR80 which I was told would fit but is still a stiff setup. I will go with your setup if this does not work.... The problem is I do not have access to a welder and the other tools needed to fab it up I would have to pay to have it done. In my head by the time I bought the shock and paid labor I could have probably bought the long travel kit and pipe from CT racing...

Jack doesn't care for the CT extension kit...I'd only recommend it if you were to brace the cases...

I'm confident you could pick up a new or used welder for much less...and learn a new skill at the same time!

Hopefully the DS80 shock will work for you...

That makes sense! I will post the results of the DS80 shock in a couple of days. Thanks again!

Well the DS80 shock would have taken some fab work to make right although it was the correct length and style...... it seemed just as stiff so I decided not to move in that direction. Chalk it up to a lesson learned atleast it was a cheap lesson . I am going to buy the fox shock you purchased and head done that road. Did you have anymore pics of the fabrication work and would you happen to have any pics of the finished product ?

FYI: the Texiera (who really made the CT kit) long travel kit "for the front" is fine but the rear set up requires CT's long travel pipe, which is not a good pipe IMO, and there is no other pipe made for the long travel that I know of.

I will keep that in mind for the front but from what i have seen if I use there long travel kit up front and do dirtdevils set on the back I would have to get the Dura blue extended axle so that the front is not wider than the rear . True statement ?
