I had the left rear bearing go out on my 04 eiger 4x4 solid rear axle. I am going ahead and changing both sides and have the left side done no issues. On the right side, side of brake hub, after putting in bearings and snap ring there is only maybe 1/16" of lip left for the seal. Unless, the seal is smashed almost flat it will not fit into the axle housing the same as the right side. Is this normal or is there something wrong with the housing on the left side? Thanks.

 

Read your post again, there are references to "the left side done no issues". and then " is there something wrong with the housing on the left side" which contradicts this. I don't think I have ever had the bearings on the RH (brake drum) side out as they never get wet, which is why the bearings on the LH side fail. Check the RH seal doesn't fit in the backplate rather than the axle.
