LT80 Runs better with no Air box ?

Default LT80 Runs better with no Air box ?
What would cause my LT80 to run better with no Airbox. With Airbox on it will start right up and idle all day, dies from half to full throttle.

First off is a good carb cleaning. If the problem persists, do a compression test. I'd do the comp test anyways.
