Default The big washer on the variator, lt80

Hi, new to the forum and would like to say thanks for all the help, endless amounts of info regarding the little lt80.

I bought an 04 a few months ago for $300aud, not running and very very neglected. I’m now $1800 deep🙄 countless hours, freshly painted frame.
Just in the process of putting the clutches back together, nearly all new parts, have done the mods and shaved the head, 90 jet ect.
Can someone please tell me why the big washer in the front variator has such a big inside diameter?
When the belt is on it pulls the washer towards the back clutch, I loosened the nut and have centred it by eye but I just don’t understand why it isn’t a snug fit in the first place... surely it would cause everything to be unbalanced. Thanks

Yes it is mate, the one that sits in the middle that causes the groove in the belt.

The idea was that it takes off in a more easy fashion. The belt sits up a tad allowing the variator to get movement before it takes off. It's actually allowing the motor to rev up and get "on the pipe" creating a slightly higher stall.
That's my take on it anyways. Lol

That makes sense, do you try and centre it I’m guessing? Thanks for the help Jack, yourself merryman and many others are very helpful and knowledgeable on here, I’d have been in the dark if it wasn’t for so many helpful people. It knew nothing of the lt80 when I bought it, just knew it was Japan quality not Chinese junk, I love the little quad and enjoy working on it, my wallet not so much haha. Cheers from Australia

I never have centered it. Just threw it all together. I can understand your worries about that.

I centrally shall do that. Thanks for answering my question.
Off topic here, it amazes me that ufo or another plastics company hasn’t produced a restyle kit for the lt80, sell it at a reasonable price and I’m sure many would purchase them. How’s Jack Moore restyle kit sound? Lol make it happen please haha. Thanks again.
