Default dvx 400 cooling system problem?

I have a 04 dvx, just had the top end gaskets replaced because the head gaskets were done, motor sounds great, no issues there.

however, I went for a little ride today and drove it for maybe 3-4 mins. just down the road and back, I noticed the engine was so hot you could barely touch it. but the rad hoses and rad and water pump was all cold still.

is it supposed to take longer than that for the rad to heat up or is my system not pressurized?

Don't know your model at all, but it is the thermostat that sets at what temp, the hot water starts to circulate into the radiator to start cooling. A blown head gasket may indicate the thermostat was stuck shut. Other possibility, as the engine has just been rebuilt, is an air lock in the cooling system, making the water not circulate at all. Many engines have a bleed screw at a high point in the cooling system so air can be released after the system has been refilled. Pressurised or non pressurised, doesn't matter. Though pressurised systems always have a spring loaded cap on either radiator or header tank.
