I just bought a 2006 Eiger 400 4x4 that seems to be running great. The only thing I could complain about is it's a little hard to shift in Low range, seems like it was from 2nd to 3rd, but it's still running good. The guy I bought it from took decent care of it, and it's got a rebuilt carb with a newer petcock that seem to be doing great. I got some peanut oil to renew the plastics on it Saturday, and it turned out nice!
My question is what is decent oil for this 4 wheeler that's priced economically? Do I need to run expensive motorcycle oil in it, or would just regular 10w-40 work fine in it? I don't want to run it in the ground and don't mind babying it, but I don't want to waste money.

It has to have an oil suitable for "wet clutches" which motorcycle oils are, but a lot of "normal" oils are too. So check the package and if it doesn't say suitable for wet clutches, don't buy it. May be worth checking the clutch adjustment, that could help with the gearchange. Eigers are rather prone to clutch slip anyway, so regular clutch adjustment is a good idea.

A lot of people use the Rotella T4. Look at the oil specs on the bottle of any motor oil, make sure it meets all requirements, plus JASO MA/MA2. That means it is wet clutch compatible.
I ended up going with Maxima oil and hope to change the oil soon (if I can get the doggone oil filter off - it's going to take a strap wrench at least!).
