Greetings,

A friend of mine is looking at buying a used King Quad. At least we think it is a King Quad. We don't know what year it is. It is a 300 with the Hi-Low-Superlow transmission. It has an inch of dust on it so it ain't a recent model. They want $2000 for it. So...

A. Can you tell me what year it might be or at least how to tell? I noticed on the Kelly Blue Book pages that the "King Quad" or 300 cc models don't go back that far. So can you tell me the range of years we are looking at?

B. Given the Kelly prices, $2000 seems fair enough. Cany you offer an opinion on this.

He's a really good guy who helps me all the time so I would like to return the favor on this. Any thoughts or advice is most welcome.

You can tell the King Quad from the 250 4x4 by the presence of an oil cooler in the nose of the machine. These have been built for over 10 years with few mechanical changes. The year of the machine doesn't matter as much as the mileage on the odometer and the condition of the machine. Depending how long its been sitting, the old gas may need to be drained and fresh put in along with a good dose of your favorite carburator cleaner. If it has low miles and wasn't beaten, $2000.00 would seem to be a very good price. Make sure that your friend rides the machine before he buys it.
