I have read in this forum that a good mod for the LT80 is to remove 3 of the roller weights from the front clutch to improve shift characteristics. It seems to me that unless the motor has been greatly modified to pull many extra rpm, removing weights will only serve to reduce the amount of travel in the front clutch, thereby reducing the top speed significantly. Another mod is to increase the weight(strength) of the rear spring. If you do this as well as removing weights from the front clutch, surely this will make the situation even worse?? If the motor can't pull more than stock rpm (7500-8000), then all these mods will do is slow the thing down.
Have I missed the point here, or is this close to the truth?

on a stock motor, i feel that you are correct. The roller thing comes from ppl not knowing what to do and want to do something, and eliminating rollers sounds like a good idea for the LT-80 novice. The rear spring replacement can actually help(depending on the strength of the spring), mostly because the stock rear clutch spring looses its strength fast thus alowing the rear clutch to open too fast thus lugging the motor
