Here goes...
My uncle has an 87 LT230. The problem is that the chain roller (bottom one I believe) keeps get chewed up and ripped off by the chain. This has happened probable 5 times now. He has had it to the shop, where the told him that this was a common problem because the swingarm is angled down at too great an angle. They then proceeded to put a new shock on($500 for a stock shock???, wish he would have told me first because a works is only 350-400). The guys at the shop were hoping that would fix it, but they were wrong.
Do you have any ideas on how to fix this, has it happened to anyone else?
I was thinking that the chain roller could be cut off, then repositioned lower on the frame. Or I was going to try just making the rear shock as soft as possible so that the rear end sags more and the angle of the s-arm isn't so large.
I don't want to get too involved in this, trying to keep it to a simple fix.
Any suggestions or comments are greatly apppreciated.
Thank You

I havn't heard of this problem before but i have a suggestion. Don't loosen the shock any b/c that should in no way be a resort to this problem. Does the chain rub the swingarm if the roller is taken off? If it doesnt then you can go without it. If its anything like my Quadracer bottom roller try this, drill a small hole in the swingarm and put a new screw through the guard right where the chain would grap the quard and rip it off. It must be a very small screw. Always lube the chain every night with chain lubricant to help make it slipprier.

Are you talking about the chain guard, or the chain roller? The roller is what keeps getting broken, not the chain guard in front of the rear sprocket. I'm not too familiar with how this quad is designed, haven't seen it for over 3 years, if it's similar to my Warrior though, the roller is mounted on the frame.
