WOO-HOO! The frame is done!!!!

The frame is now like am '87-92, only stronger. I used thicker gauge steel and gusseted around the front motor mounts. The head mounts are totally custom, they are similar in design to the 87-92, but bigger. next on the list is A-arms... mwahaha!
the frame is hanging from the ceiling right now and is drying off from the fresh coat of gloss black... Tomorrow I think I'll petty up my $133.95 for the Wiseco piston kit and hone the cylinder... then it's time for the pipe...

Just the guy I'm looking for!!! I was thinkng of doing the same conversion. I was wondering if you've had any trouble doing it so far?? What kind of pipes are you going to put on it?So far is that the only "trouble" spots, the motor mounts and the ex. pipe? It's like I said, I am very interested in doing this conversion but I don't want to screw it up. I would really appreciate it if you could answer these questions. Thank-you!

No trouble doing it this far. The plan right now is to use the stock RM pipe or get a custom pipe made. The only parts that needed to be modified were the front motor mounts and I had to make a head mount because the 85-86s didn't have one. The shifter also needs to be modified or moved... I'm still working on that right now...
If you had an 87 there would be a lot less work, in fact the swap would probably take half the time and would be a lot cheaper if you were paying someone to do it. For the 87 no true frame mods would even need to be made, you'd just make up new mounts.
Doing this swap should decrease weight slightly and increase power quite a bit, but also increase vibration pretty badly. It's not an extremely practical swap, but neither is the YZF426/CRF450R engine in to a 250R frame, and look at what those are doing to the ATV racing world. Actually I was looking to do with a '99 motor already counter balanced and all that fun stuff. If I could find a way to use the RM pipe, I'd be good. I just think it would make a monster of a four wheeler!!! If not I can always sell the bike and buy a quad! Thanks
