Raptor720, sounds like good advice, after all, the LT80 has the same poor suspension as the LT50. I can't beleive they expect a 12 year old and older to ride an atv with only 2-3" of suspension travel.

My kid's LT50 leaks gas a lot when I take it on/off my pickup, I guess that's typical of a 2 stroke mini or perhaps the Yam dealer left the gas drain screw turned out/loose?? I was going to walk away from the Yam dealer since they wouldn't sell me the LT80 for my 6 and 3 yr old even if I left them at home & bought the bike with out them. As a compromise, they offered to remove the exhaust/carb restrictors for free on the LT50. Maybe that's why it leaks gas so much?? I should have done the work myself, I just don't trust dealers to do anything right. They also ruined a lot of the plastic rivets that holds the fenders in place -dealers suck, I should make them get me new ones but they probably won't last long anyway, I'll just use nuts/bolts to replace them. I really should have done the work myself. I'll take a look at the carb myself & while I'm there I'll try some of the mods you recommended. I can't say thanks enough for the info you provide on this forum, you must really love tinkering around with this stuff. I know I do, my Raptor has opened up a whole new world for me, got me doing all my own work, valves & all. This forum rocks!!

About the Kasea Skyhawk 90, I'm not sure but is this the one they say has more travel than a 250EX, disc brakes, and electric start?? I'll check it out on the internet. Now I can use the LT50 as an excuse to do some more mods/upgrades- I sort of agreed with my wife that I was done with spending $$ on my Raptor for a while but it would be a sin not to get the most out of the new mini right?? LOL.

Well, the drain screw is tight so I guess its just a thing with these? The idle screw works fine & they must have removed the 2nd pilot screw since I was able to change the engine response when I turned the air mixture screw.

IT should NOT leak gas!

ON the LT50, the fuel valve is not like other atv's. It has three positions -- to of which are the same. Notice that only one position says "ON." The other two say "PRI." No, that does not mean primary it means prime. What you do is turn the gas valve to PRI, wait about 10 seconds as fuel fills the fuel bowl and then start the engine. Once the engine is running, turn the valve to ON. The design of the valve is such that NO gas will flow from the tank unless it is in the PRI position UNLESS the engine is running. What they have is an automatic fuel shut off. When the engine stops, a vac line causes the fuel to stop automatically. If the bowl goes dry (after sitting for a few hours on a hot day) you need to fill the bowl first.

If fuel leaks from the carb, it either means that the float level is wrong (they bent it) or the needle and seat are either not yet seated correctly or damaged. If it only leaks fuel when you tip it up to put it in the truck, that is normal.

There are many other mods you can perform on the LT50 but what is the point.

On the bigger youth quad issue, remember, the Consumer Products Safety Commission set the speed limit for the 50 and 90cc machines. There are a few imports that ignore the speed limits and will appear faster BUT I would avoid such a company. When you kid learns to ride and appreciate the stock speed, we can talk about moving up the performance of the bigger youth atv's. Yes, it is not difficult to take a 90cc youth atv and make it easily faster than a Blaster, 300EX, 250Ex, stock 400EX and many other machines.

PEP and Works make LT-80 shocks, and really help out!!,, Raptor720,whats the length of the suspention travel on the kasea? personally I feel that all of the mini quads suspentions suck
I'm glad you got the 50's for the young kids,,maybe in a cpl years they will be ready for one of my LT-80 motors or one of Raptor720's kasea motors

Travel is not all that great but I get about 5" of wheel travel. I have also experimented with moving the shock angle to get more suspension. It seems to work ok.

On the Kasea engines, I have one that we plan to install in a LT80 just for fun.

Raptor720, thanks again for the info, you never cease to amaze me.
I saw in a previous post that you are actually a quad tech, or at least your email suggests it, that explains your expertise.

Anyway, my kid's LT50 only leakes gas when I take it on/off the truck so like you said I guess its normal. I even tried using ramps & driving it on/off the ramp with the quad running to see if that would matter-nope, still leaks a little when you shut it off. No big deal, just makes a little puddle in the back of my truck- doesn't hurt with a Poly.. bed liner. I let it drain off before I put it in the garage.

I have no intentions of making this thing a race quad anytime soon, my kids are too young/small. I don't see the point unless the suspension was improved as well. By the time they are ready for more I will probably be looking at a bigger quad anyway. I just wanted a little more pep for when I load/unload it in the truck. The improvements only appeared to improve top speed, low end power is still mild.
Thanks for the advice!

When you plan to store the LT50 for any length of time, open the bowl drain screw and get the gas out of the bowl. ALso, because the gas tank is unfinished metal on the inside, make sure the take is full of gas and add some fuel stablizer. This will remove any air at the top of the tank where they start to rust.
