The lt-z400 have been tested yesterday at Quebec city. They have tested in the same day a z400, 400ex, and a raptor. Here are the number:

z400:
34.5 whp
27 of torque
68 milles per hour max speed

400ex
31 whp
25 of torque
63 milles per hour max speed

raptor
36 whp
no number for the torque...
74 mille per hour max speed

Seem that the raptor hp is pretty low... (and all hp are a little high) but these test have been performed in the same day.

I will check tomorrow to have the test faxed to me... If I am able to have it faxed to me, I will scan it and post it somewhere... to follow!

I'd like to see the Z400 dynoed with a pipe & airbox mods.
They really wake up a Raptor.

 

The one thing that REALLY looks odd is the top speed numbers. There is no way the Z400 has only 1.5 hp less than the Raptor and is a whopping 6 mph slower.....unless the Z400 is not even 1/1 in high gear?
I would expect the Z to be in the low 70's with hp numbers that close.
I wonder why the torque # for the Raptor was not there...maybe because it was almost exactly the same as the HP......making the Z look worse. Sure seems like an unfair comparism. Who knows? Anyways, thanks for the info!

Dyno shootouts are of little value unless you are testing different engines to go in the same quad and want to know what they put out. Had this same "dyno brag" scenerio thrown at me by a drag racing buddy of mine. I told him I never saw 2 engines racing down a track, they were always wrapped in a vehicle which made as much or more of a difference in the cars performance as the engine did. Gearing, weight and many other factors will determine which of the 3 great quads is the best or fastest. Even that may not be conclusive as one may do better in variable riding venues. But we all still wanna know the numbers anyways! Just our crazy gearhead instincts kicking in! Gonna be some great 400ex vs z400 vs Raptor stories coming soon!

Who said that HP=speed. The z-400 may be geared pretty low from the factory........A typical tractor has alot of torque and HP, but how fast does a tractor go? Not very fast, because it is geared low.

I was hoping Suzuki would put tractor gears in the Z400 so I could mow my lawn before I hit the trails. [img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img] Actually, lower gearing provides better acceleration provided traction is there. An engine that produces power in the upper rpms and has a somewhat peaky torque curve will benefit even more from lower gearing. The torque multiplication at the wheels get it through the lower rpms quicker and into the "meaty" part of the powerband where it can accelerate quicker.
