Eiger PROBLEM!!
#1
Well some of you may have seen my previous post about how my new Eiger quit on me when I first took it out. It would not run above idle, when you gave it any gas it would sputter badly. After 10 minutes or so it ran fine. The fan works and it was not too hot. The dealer and myself decided it was water in the gas. Well, in my experience it's never water in the gas and after a few rides it happened again and this time it was on a pretty bad hill. It did it twice actually, once while I was 2/3rds up the hill. Luckily, I had a few guys w/ me to help me or I would have injured myself or trashed the bike. I'm trying to call the dealer at the moment. I really don't want this bike anymore. I like everything about it but it is dangerous. The either need to give me a new bike ( which I'm leary of now) or my money back. I don't want a new machine tore into and I don't want them to so called service it and cause me to total it on a hill or WORSE. I have a few lawyers in the family but I would hope we could work this out amicably. Has anyone had this happen or did I just get a lemmon?? Thank you guys for any help.

You've ruled out water in fuel so two more things come to mind.
Float needle is sticking or the float itself is hanging up. Does it only do it on uphills?
Vacuum operated fuel **** is screwing up. **** itself is bad or you have a vacuum leak in the tubing to it. Rule this out by turning it to prime and riding for awhile.

1 They are not going to give you a new bike for this. 2 They are not going to give your money back eather. 3 They will fix the bike and give it back to you. That is all they will do. I have had not 1 problem with my Eiger I even flipped it and it cost me $900.00 in parts and they are still on back order. After fliping it I was pined for 30 to 40min under it 600lb will kick your a$$ when it on top of you. I KNOW!!! I finally got out from under it flipped it back over which was a bit-h in itself. then had to drive up the hill I flipped it on. I hit two good size rocks that let the frontend come off the hill. Still had to drive it 50 miles out. I am still driving it today but a lot more cautious tho you bet your A$$. You will haft to sell your machine out right yourself if you want to get rid of it. I personally like mine even tho it whooped my a$$ for 30 to 40min lmao. I got over 1000 miles on it now. I have only had it for 3/4 months now. So get your family lawyers together if you are not happy with it. You will need them all in this case. I guarantee it.

It's called lemmon law and if it is a safety issue than it can be utilized. I realize that I have to take it in and give them a chance to fix it and also start the documentation. However, I will not be able to have the prob occur in front of them as it has done it 3 times in last 90 miles. Dealers sometimes do give new bikes if a bad enough problem since I know dealers and people who have had this situation. Since I don't trust this bike anymore I'll prolly dump it asap if I can't get some satisfaction from the dealer. Where I ride, there is no room for driver error and especially not mechanical malfunction. Appreciate the info. on the possible causes, I will print that and take it with the bike.
Also, the first time it did it, it was not on a hill but the last time it was.

Give em a chance to fix it.. Tell them to take it over a weekend and ride it like you've been riding it.. I know it's frustrating but it's not exactly easy for the techs either when they can't make the problem occur.
Someone mentioned vacuum operated petcock.. Suzukis are notorious for vacuum problems and carburetion glitches. I'd look there first.
good luck-

Yea, I'm not sure about the lemmon law but there is still a liability issue with the thing cutting out on these hills where I live, since it's new and under warrany. I've heard of carberator probs on Suzuki's and my buddy has probs w/ his Arctic cat stalling. I guess I have to give them a chance to fix it but I will be nervous on some of these hills and highwalls. Thanks again.

Have them replace ALL VACUUM LINES mark them with permanent marker make sure they do it. Have them put NEW CARB on mark it too. make sure they do it too or dont take the machine back. Don't bit-h at them over the phon do it in preson and tell them if this is not done you will not take it back. If they replace both of them two. That will cut 80% of what it could be. There is still 20% left tho. I am sure they will find it in vacuum or carb. oh you have hills . we don't have them here .we have mountains here and they stay white caped all year with glaciers on them lmao and that for real . I hope this helps

Jham,
Sorry about your problems with your bike. Are you ridding at alot of different elevations. Maybe your bike is not jetted corectly for your particular altitude. Have you checked the plug right after it stalled? If it's real black or wet with gas you need to drop the jetting. When I ride my sandrail in Telico Plains Tenn. I have to drop the mains alot to lean it up. Sharp angles seem to magnify the problem. I know you probably don't want to hear it, but my bike is running great. It has never stalled. Every manufacturer has their share of lemons, you could have gotten one. Give the dealer a chance to remedy the problem though. To me it sound like a problem with carb. Jetting is a pain in the a$$, but once it is right you'll be good to go.
When you get it back take it and ride just like you normally do and in the same locations. Maybe not at the extreme angles until you get the faith back. Get a plug reading. Sounds like it will be rich (black), but take a good look at the spark plug and adjust your jetting from there.

Im not surprised have had many troubles with my eiger, many things i was able to fix myself like, 4x4 would not disengage, shifter needed much fine tuning Automatic would get stuck between low/ high grind like he!!...Lastest problem started with backfireing then missing ,stalling now no spark at all...Dealer has bin fair swap all electrical components except wiring harness....still no spark Suzuki is giving the dealer a hard time w/harness under warranty they want him to take off of a floor model. They would have two do twice as much work on both bikes I really like this bike hope they get the bugs worked out..The biggest gripe I have with it is engine brake, sure works well unless you use your back brakes..If I brake harder than engine brake it makes alot of loud chatter @ driveshaft...im told this is the nature of this beast by dealer and other Auto owners ..When Warranties up im sure going to try and eliminate engine brake...Never had this problem w/my ole 89 polaris Auto never needed to go to the shop
