I have until Nov to decide if I want to buy it. $400 - $500 could buy some mods instead, but being a first year model the extended warranty might be a good idea.

I just bought the new Z400 here in California. It's a sweet Quad. If i were you i would save my money and use it for a new pipe or some other hope up mode....on a total different topic now ..i just found out that kawi put out a sports Quad and its identical to the Z400 ..that kinda pisses me off.I thought i would have a unique Quad...like the Rapter was when it first came out, for atleast a year or so....

I passed on the extended warranty. It seems like a waste of money to me, the motor is a proven power plant, I figure get the bugs out of it during the first 6 mos and then go crazy with mods

My dealer offered it to me for almost $600! I found a dealer from PA selling them for $399 on eBay. (It doesn't matter where you get them, they're good anywhere) I had the extra money, so I figured why not? I don't plan on making any mods anytime soon.

I passed on it. Most of the expensive stuff is just not covered, or they come up with some type of excuse to get out of fixing it. If it does not break in the first 6 months you probably have a solid machine. If I have failures on more than $1000 worth of stuff after that, the quad needs to be sold and they no longer can expect my business. That's how we do it.

I bought it, the dealer sold me the bike for $400 less than MSRP so I used the money to buy the extended warranty. In my mind you just never know about the first year for a quad (do they have the bugs worked out or not) so I thought it better to be safe than sorry. If I never use it (after all of the problems that I have had with my Polaris) it will be money well spent.
