NEW OZARK puffing smoke HELP!
#11
I try to change oil around 10 hrs. but don't always hit it right on as I don't have any way to accurately track the time. Have to use the old "guesstimate" method. I'm sure I don't get it changed until 12-13hrs. most of the time. The oil has been visibly dirty every change except for break-in first service. I probably wouldn't be so zealous about oil changes on my quads but the oil doing double duty as trans/clutch and engine lube source worries me a bit. It's the old "better safe than sorry' thing with me. I do feel that frequent oil changes will help wear of internal parts on a quad and prevent premature smoking. Quad motors/trans take a much worse beating internally than a car engine does so I feel fresher oil is in order for them. I do my cars and trucks every 2500 and it has worked out great, my 88 5.0 has 168,000 hard miles on it and doesn't use a drop of oil. I think it is beause of my oil changing routine. It's the only car I own that I bought new and know the complete servicing history.

I use synthetic in all my vehicles and change it ones a year or 10-15k which ever comes first exept for the car that I only put 200 miles on a year.
You can put an hr meter on any thing it is real easy find a spot to mount it and rap the pic-up around the ignition wire and it is done. I picked mine up for 37 buck.
