I just bought the Z400 and I'm having a problem. The normal or closed position of the choke in the manual shows fully up but the quad is nearly impossible to start in that position. As the temperature around here is 75 degrees I shouldn't have to use the choke at all should I? But if I put the choke in the fully open position, all the way down, the quad starts right up. Then when I push the choke up after a little time, the quad dies.

What I need to know is: Is the choke in the normal position when it is fully up or all the way down?

And if it's fully up, then why am I having such a hard time starting the quad?

Thanks for your help guys.

The normal riding position of the choke is all the way up. When I start mine after it has not been ridden for a while I have to give is some choke but not all the way down, about a minute after it starts I can turn the choke off. The temperature here is usually cool in the mornings so I almost always use the choke to start it.

Check your manual. The only time is says to use the choke all the way is when the temp is less than forty degrees or something like that, don't quote me though. Above that is half way, and over seventy degrees is a no choke start, even if it hasn't been run. If over seventy and it doesn't wanna start, just barely give it any choke at all, then she'll fire right away.

I never needed the choke so I removed it because I kept bumping it, turning it on. Just give it a little throttle when you start it and you will be fine.

I just choke mine a little hen I start even in warm temps. Otherwise it won't start. Fires right up I just let it warm for 30 secs and away we go.
