lt250r
#2
I have owned two of them, an '86 and an '87. I still own the '87 and I like it better than most any other sport quad I've ridden (blasters, banshees, warriors, 300EX's, etc.). My '87 has been very reliable (so far) and does great. I'd rather spend $1500-2000 on an older q-racer (instead of 5-6 grand on a new quad) and spend the money I save on hop-ups...for $4k you can have a KILLER LT250..

I agree with what he said about buying a used one and modifying it. You can have a really great quad for around $4k or less. I really like my '90 because it came with plenty of mods, but whoever owned it before me either didn't bother to maintain it very well or else they sold it right before everything was going to need to be replaced (lucky me). So make sure its been taken care of before you buy it. Right now I have about $2500 into it and it will outrun a new 400ex until I completely top out. And I plan on investing about $1500 more into it (aftermarket suspension, plastic, graphics, new exhaust, etc...) by this summer so I can have quad that will do just about everything great and look good too. I just can't wait until my "project Quadracer" is completed so I can beat my cousin's '00 400ex around our track this summer for about $2k less than what he spent on his quad.

I have an 86 lt250. I'm looking to buy a newer one also like a 90. My 86 has been a great bike till recently a few parts came lose in the tranny and it get real messy inside. But like anyone said you find a good taken care of used one you can have a killer bike for several grand less then a new one.
Hey anyone know where I can get a motor??

I have a 89' lt250r it's fast and nice ,I paid
$2,500 for it ,it runs great, they're faster than
the trx250r because the lt has a exhaust valve, before you buy it ride it,I looked at a few
and they claimed that the engine was rebuilt and the clutch and in first gear it had no get-up and go,and the clutch slipped because it was raced hard and not maintained good.it's hard to find one in good shape.

Flyboy,
I also agree with buying a used one and modifing it to your taste. I had a 87 Zilla which I bought new in 87, after she was lost in a fire 3 years ago I set out on a quest to build one. I now have the ultimate Zilla, I bought a used one for a grand and I rode it home, I disasembled it and had laegers work over the frame and build me a new swingarm, CT and Tudors performance rebuilt my motor top and bottom, Installed chrome works shocks, Dura blue axle and Hubs (honda pattern so I could run the new ultimate beadlock series rim) A ton of chrome and billet (a-arms,gas cap, axle nuts, brake and sprocket hubs, etc.) She now sports new plastic with purple frame and nose piece. Anyway, I now have 8-9 grand in her and I went to the extreme, But considering that a new DS 650 is about 7 grand and a 400 EX is 6, I don't think that is to bad. Plus she will out run just about anything, and it doesn't look like anything else. For about 5 grand you could have a kick A$$ almost race ready monster so go for it.
AZA---Try east coast atv for a motor, You might also want to call jeff Tudor of Tudors performance, He is awesome and could probably redo your motor and hop it up for less than a used motor. If you want his number I can get it out of my shop.
