I ride with a buddy that wants to swap a 500 motor into 250 frame. Has anyone here done this? Where would be a good place to find a quadzilla motor? I know there is one on ebay but its hard to tell if it is a good motor just from pictures. Thnaks in advance for any info.

my uncle has done that swap many times. he's got it down to a science with exact messurments and all. My cousin just built a stage 4 500 thats sitting in his 250 frame now and puts out some serious horses. He lives here on the west coast, I can try and get intouch with him and find out what it takes but it can be done with little effort from what i have seen. also even if that motor you saw on ebay was a little tired it doesnt take much to turn that thing into a real ripper.

You have to spread the frame a little at the bottom
Space the brake side footpeg about 1/4"
Bend brake lever
Space rear sprocket to line up chain
Make new front and top motor mounts
Make a pipe or buy one fron CT racing $370 or atvracing1 approx $300
Thats about it. Your 250 CDI works fine.

I was actually wondering if it was a lt25 or trx25 chassis, that was going to be used for the project. I'm puting the finishing touches on my trx500,86 frame,90 lt500,CT mx port job and custom pipe. So far i like the combo, it's pretty sick, the power to weight ratio is awsome, and belive it or not it kept a lot of the handling characteristics it had with the 250 in it........ FYI,I would not recomend CT racing, the port job looked like ***,I ended up puting hours of my own time into it, to get it to look like what I expected it to look like, when I took it out of the box. The pipe was'nt bad, probably because the don't make there own, they source them out, even though I had to redo the head pipe, the angle was off, though I kinda expected it to be,and,it took about 4.5 months to get it.

Hey whats up, about that port job,the exuast actually looked pretty good, on the intake, the floor was un-even full of gouge mark's from a rotary file.At the begining of the port's on either side, that dump into the crank case, there was about a .060-.090 flat, that was all over the place,I knife edged those, the ports in general had no consistency and were not very concentric, when you looked at the whole picture you just did'nt see the "FLOW'' in any of ther work.I went around and tweeked stuff here and there, and aligned all ports with the case's, and finished off by hand sanding a directional 125 finish (aprox). Don't get me wrong, i'm not claiming to be a porting expert, i'm far from it,that take's years of practice.I'm willing to listen to any pointer's.One thing I found, was that the delta v-force reed's will not hold up to the vacum the 500's have, they ended up chiping apart on the corners, resulting in virtually being impossible to start when cold. After modifiying the stock intake boot to make bolt to the v-force cage, when i went back to the stock cage, i ended up gaining all most a .250" on each side of cage. I couldnt belive the diference, a lot crispy'er especially on top, it actually has some decant top end now.
