Default Z400 base gasket

Has anyone tried putting in the DRZ base gasket in their Z to raise the compression to 12.2:1? How much of a difference would this be compared to a high comp piston? Lastly, how hard was it to install? Thanks.

Good luck getting a response on this forum. I don't understand why people that visit this forum are not very good at helping people? Maybe there are not many people visiting this site.

I doubt that would work. It may but by lowering the cylinder your cam chain will become lose and yes it can be tightened but only to a point. Taking out that much in gasket would severely loosen it and you would probably have to change the timing chain. Pulling gaskets works on 2 strokes but i wouldnt recommend it on a 4 stroke. I would just spend the money on a high comp piston.

I have seen people take the base gasket from the DRZ400E and use it in the DRZ400S to get the 12.2-1 with good results. Everything else is the same, they only changed the gasket to lower the compression, So I see no problem with using it on the Z! If you try it, get the DRZ or DRZ "E" gasket, don't get the DRZ "S" its the same as the quad. Later guys and good luck.

i have done the base gasket its simple to do it does lower the cylender but you dont have to worry about the timing change its the same motor as the drz400s and all you are doing is putting in the drz400kick start base gasket all the 12to 1 piston kits are the same piston they just use the thinner base gasket so they are kinda ripping you off i did notice a big difference in performance it revs even quiker and has way more torque i can give you guys part numbers fore the gaskets i think they are like 25 bucks? and you dont have to mess with the valve ajustments after as long as they were right before

Adrenjnky- The part number would be great. I have a couple questions for you since you are the only one so far who seems to have done this- How long and how hard was it to install and what octane gas do you use with it? Thanks

it took me like 2 hours start to finish i have ran it on super several times and with no problems it is the same way the factory drz are and they call for 92 so i guess it would b no problem as for the part numbers for the head and base gasket you should allways replace the head gasket when you tear down the top end i will have to find my reciept again or you can just ask for the drz kick start head and base gasket the head is the same part number between all the drz and the ltz and you should get a manual if you never done 1 so you can get the cam timing back and the head torque
