Daaaaaaaang....jus looked at your pics...NICE job bro! I have a Z400 and am always tryin to keep up with my 2 *dirt bike* ridin buddies I go ridin with...seems like they always loose me in the whoops!!!!! Think your quad will keep up with a bike out in the desert whoops with the suspension you have? We usually go ridin out in the Dove Springs/Jawbone aera. Thanks for keep'n us *posted* on your project!!!

It looks like you will have the same travel, just higher, there is the same amount of shaft showing on both, it just has a longer can on the new one, so it reaches down further, but also means you will hit but with out being able to stuff the wheels as much.

i used to have the same problems, i smoke all my friends on motorcycles on the SX track on in the whoops at the desert, the only place they lose me is top speed. which is in the works. i think my LTZ tops out at about 75-80 with the different gearing. now i need a rev box and a big bore so i can get to that speed faster.

Sweet...thats jus what i wanted to hear! BTW...i was doin some homework and found sumpthin interestin! If you look at the Suzuki/Kawasaki dirt bikes runnin the 400 engine...look closely at the specs! The DRZ and the KLX both show the compression ratios at 12.2:1!!!!!!!! Since our quad motors got a 11.3:1 piston...im wonderin if the dirt bike piston will pop right in! It also says the bikes get a 39mm carb instead of the 36mm carb that we got on our quads. Im gonna do some more homework and find out if the cams have the same or different part numbers as well. If anyone else comes up with the cam info...post it here. And maybe we'll have an even better way to roost off our bike ridin buddies!!!!!!!! hehehehe Has anyone made this piston swap already??

THE CAMS ARE DIFFERENT THE COMPRESION IS JUST A BASE GASKET AWAY AND THE DIRT BIKES USE A FCR CARB AND THE DRZ400S USE THE SAME CARB AS THE LTZ WE GOT THE WIMPY STREETBIKE VERSION OF THE MOTOR THE GOOD NEWS IS YOU CAN PUT ALL THE PARTS FROM A DRZ 400K INTO THE LTZ BASE GASKET CAMS CARB ECT BUT IF YOU ARE GOING TO DO CAMS WHY NOT DO SOME HOT CAMS ALL THESE 12 TO 1 PISTON KITS ARE THE SAME AS YOU HAVE NOW WITH THE THINNER GASKET SO SAVE SOME MONEY AND BUY THE 20 DOLLAR DRZ400K BASE GASKET

heres the scoop on the compression diff.

the Klx/drz run a thinner base gasket on the cylinder, thus boosting the compression. this can be done on the LTZ fairly simply, just swap them out, and make appropriate jetting changes. now... as for carb. the best way is either a Edelbrock carb...about 500$ YIKES! the benefit of the edelbrock is a position sensitive accelerator pump...GREAT FOR DESERT/GP, or the Keihin FCR 39-41mm, great for MX about 430$ as for other mods you can make for speed/power: Cams, HotCams sells a set of cams intake/exhaust at $150 per cam. and they make a good top end gain. you can also go with Yoshimura which i have heard is the way to go. other simple mods, exhaust, trinity and alba i have found to be the best about 420$, alba intake kit 85$ p.m. me i can maybe get you one at a better price, remove the screen inside the airboot and remove your airbox lid, jet up that carb!, a yoshimura ingition is the #1 mod for the Z/kfx. Remapping your spark curve and raising the limiter, give unbeatable performance dont know cost. 440 kit. about 200$ for piston/gaskets, an addition 150$-200$ for bore/nikasil. you best option would be to call up Alba, and find out what they are doing. they are getting more power/speed out of their Z's then anyone else i know of right now. their # is 1-888-783-3175

Very InTerEstInG!!!! I have on my desk a K&N filter, filter adaptor, and jet kit i ordered from Alba! I'm goin to install it all this Sat and hopefully go for a quick ride on sunday. Do u think if i swaped the base gasket...along with what i have mentioned above...the motor will run ok? I really dont wanna mess with such a smooth running motor too much!!! Know what i mean? Thanks in advance!!!
