LT80 porting or any 2 stroke porting.

Sorry about that last one. I was talking to a shop owner today about 2 strokes and how they work and what mods are good for them. He recommended raising the cylinder to change the port timing. Doing this by either stacking gaskets or making your own and different thicknesses depending on where you want your power band. The concept sounded very interesting but I do not have much exp. with 2 strokes. Any body ever try this. LT80 you ever heard of this? I have sent you a couple of pm's, are you not getting them. Thanks. Cya.

Well, that wouldnt be a good fix for the LT80. Raising the entire cylinder 1mm might be OK, but you would need to take 1mm off the top of the cylinder to compensate. That will raise every port on the machine. Just raising the exhaust on these is not enough. You gonna have to widen the port and correct that hard turn out of the cylinder. There is no one way to port these either. You can set them up to run at factory RPMs (about 6500) or you can port them to run at 9500. Depending on clutching, compression, etc will determine what you do. But just raising the cyinder is not going to help much if any in my opinion.
