The Lt250R..especially the 87+ models are much more up to speed with the current sport quads then the 230. While the 230 has been a very reliable machine it can't compare to the power of a 250R 2 stroke motor. If it runs good then you have made a wise choice. If your use to your 230....hold on...it's a whole new world. While the Lt250R isn't quit up to the handleing of the TRX250R or newer sport quads, it has the motor to run with any of them. It's a great machine, you may just have to work a little harder then on a Z400. I have both a Z400 and a LT250R and I like them both. You can't replace the feeling of a 2 stroke 250R motor....it's a thrill, but the Z handles like a dream. As far as your 230 goes, just remember the good times you had together. Seats, tires, needles are all cheap if the frame and motor are in good shape. You can also find just about anything for the LT250R on Ebay for a steal if you are patient. I got a motor (still original bore, compression at 165-170, just need new piston and some TLC) DG alloy nerf bars, DG Alloy grab bar, and full DG exhaust for around $300. After all that.....my point is that the 230 is not on the same level as the LT250R. You will never find a 230 on a race track. You now have a machine that will let you keep up with just about anybody.......Hope this helps

I need to have a two srtoke and a four stroke. You made a good deal. You have the better motor being a 89 because they did the intake and reed cage over for more performance. I think they call it the J motor. Any way I love my 89 racer. Parts are out there in the masses. Follow the above advice about ebay and do your research because not all parts/ years of the quadracer are inter-changable.
YEAH BABY!
