Default is it OK to polish a 87 QR cylinder w/ fine sandpaper?

Iwas wondering what i would have to do with my fuel if i polish my ports with fine sandpaper till its smooth to the touch. would it be OK to run pump gas?would i lose reliability?or would it just gain horsepower?

Should gain hp if anything. How much of a gain would probably depend on how bad they looked to start. It wont hurt reliability at all or affect the type of gas. It will just create less friction across the ports so a little more air fuel mixture can enter the cylinder.

Polishing up your ports with emory cloth won't hurt or affect anything. It will help slightly with performance.

You polish the exhaust and leave a rough finish on the intake. This actualy helps in maintaing the fuel in air mixture.

Smitty911 is right, you want the air to roll into the cylinder, a slightly rough finish is best on the intake side!
