i have heard of home porting kits but what really can you do at home to enhance the performance of your two-stroke atv? what is good techniques to do to intake like carb,boots,airfilter and box?what else could i do to the reeds or pipes? what are your personal secrets to the power?if you personally mess with your cylinder than what do you do?

I'd recommend getting::
Two stroke performance tuning by A.Grahm Bell
It's a good book and can help you with your questions.

What is basic porting? Any porting the aftermarket does is basic. Think about it, they can't make motors fast and take a chance of failure. It would ruin thier reputation. So they polish a little and charge too much money. There are alot of extremely intellegent tuners that work privately at home. They are the ones who can make a motor run. How did they do it? First, they sent a motor out for "stage whatever" porting. Got it back and realized it was only sanded on. It was a little faster mostly because it had more compression which is easy to do. Then they realized they could try it themselves. Whats to lose? Time? If epoxy can't fix it get another cylinder. Start with reading books like the one mentioned above and tech magazines and lots of testing and the desire to beat expensive aftermarket quads. You can have alot of fun. There is engine design software called TSR or something. That might help. I've never tried porting templates but the idea sounds o.k. if you've never done porting before. It's a place to start. Remember, testing, testing, testing = fun, fun, fun.
