Trouble Shooting: Suzuki Quadmaster 500 4x4 ATV
Why does my ATV start & run but as soon as I let off the starter button it dies out?
It has also backfired!

It has a new plug, its getting spark (atleast when the starter button is pushed).

It is getting gas because it runs as long as you hold the starter button.

It last ran fine when it was last parked.

Mice have gotten into the air vents and filled up with insulation, I cleaned out most of it.

Could my problem be another a air blockage caused the mice?

Could my problem be an electrical wire that a mouse may have chewd?

 

Your problem is electrical,when you push the starter button you are getting a direct feed off the battery.I would check the wire from magneto to coil.

 

I have taken the starter off.

The ATV started up by pull starting.

So the problem must have been a bad starter.

Before with the starter on the ATV would not have spark.

I still had backfiring but when I put the aircleaner back on the backfiring stopped.

I put another used starter on and I was able to pull start & run the ATV just fine.

I can't start the ATV with the used starter because the battery is now dead & will not hold a charge.

Time to go buy a new battery.
