do you turn your Petcock Fuel Valve off after every use?
Do you turn your valve off and then idle the engine till all fuel has run out of the lines?
Do you do this after every use or only when not going to ride for a month or so?
Thanks

I haven't had one for a couple of years, but when I used to have one I only turned it off when trailering it. Sometimes I didn't until someone told me the gas could slosh around and wash the oil off the cylinder. Not sure if it does but that scared me into doing it every time.

Only when in the trailer.
The other question is, how long does it take me to remember to turn it back on. [img][/img]</end quote></div>

If you run the carb dry, after the valve is off, then you wont have any plugged jet issues.
Leaving the gas on, and letting it sit for weeks or months, causes the gas in the float bowl to evaporate, and refill. There are vent lines and it does happen. The vapors are released, but the solids arent (yep there are solids in gasoline, just look at the white powder left behind in the float bowl ) . This constant evaporation and refilling over time , is what blocks the very small hole in the pilot jet, which is the smallest opening, and first to plug.
If the motor is going to be unrun, for more than a day..run it dry. I usually shut off the gas just before driving up the ramp, and itll run dry in about 30 seconds.
Ive also seen where the needle valve gets leaky,(wont shut off) and the gas can overflow the carb float. If the overflow tube is blocked with crud (alot of them are), then the gas has to overflow somewhere, and thats usually down the cylinder walls, and into the sump.
If you look at the owners manual, on the machines which have a manual fuel shut off..they recommend that the gas be shut off, whenever the motor is shut off.
