I weighed rig with NO trailer but all atvs, and it was 4650KG which is 10,300lbs. Add another 600-700 lbs for the trailer tongue weight. I use a weight distribution hitch (equalizer hitch if you prefer), so my tongue weight may be less from trailer. I don't think DOH or MOT would like it, probably a little over what book says it should be. But the system of calculating is really goofy. I'm barely allowed more weight than a single axle, yet duallys can carry way more, plus heavier duty axle and brakes. dually is so much safer if you blow a rear tire. I carried a way heavier load to remote area on crappy logging road. I blew a rear and didn't notice until I stopped. tire wasn't shredded or ruined either.

I never weighed axle, I weighed truck with toys on a gravel pit scale, designed for weighing full length 'B' train dump trucks full of sand, gravel, etc..

Confused, thanks for the info, I know what you mean by being a little over what the book says. In Ca. has long as you can travel safely, I don't think the CHP will bother you. But if, your all over the road or involved in an accident, look-out. Fines for being over weight can get into the thousands $$$. Safe traveling and again, nice set up

I have seen both the type that mount on the bed rails and the type that is a frame sitting in the truck bed supporting a platform. Which method do you all prefer? I have a nice truck, so I don't want to ding up the bed rails. Does anyone think that would be a problem with the bed rail mounted systems? I would really appreciate your input, opinions. Thank you.

njc, Welcome to the forum I have the type that slide into the bed. I haven't seen to many that use the bed rails. I did contemplate making that type, but decided to make the slide in due to; no damage what-so-ever to the truck. I just envisioned the sides bending outward from to much pressure being exerted on them from the weight of the quads and possible road forces. With my rack, only thing touching the truck is the straps holding it in place and the bottom rails that touch the bed itself.
