I've had good luck with Firestone Steeltex AT tires. They wear extremely well (i put on 80% gravel miles) and guys around here like them for year round use. They are not extremely aggressive but have better then average traction in mud and snow....plus they have NO road noise. The sidewalls in the tire are about as strong as any other tire out there.......not sure if they are the stiffest out there though....I think Yokohana (somthing like that) makes a tire that has 1 extra ply in the sidewall. I haven't tried these yet though, will probably be my next set though.....should be getting them this fall.
Hope that helps.....

Its hard to find a tire that will deliver both miles and aggressive tread.
You cant beat a Michelin for miles, but they dont have that good of
traction. And, they are very spendy.
I dont have as heavy of a truck, but I have the Toyo Open Country A/T, and
I am very happy so far. I dont have a lot of miles on them yet, but the traction
is really good, and they are wearing well. Haven't had them in snow yet, so
I cant help you there. I am told they will do well, but I'll have to wait and see...
They are available in the 235/85R16 like you are looking for.
Good luck!!

Diesel truck tires
I just got rid of the factory Firestone Steeltex AT tires on my F350. Noisy and ride rough. I hated them from day one but they wear well so I stuck with them. They would get stuck on wet grass if on a slope, even in 4x4. Horrible wet weather traction as the tread has no cuts to push water out the sides. Finally, after sliding and fishtailing too many times (driving slow and safely when this happened) I gave up on them. Still a lot of tread left at 36,000 but they are dangerous in my opinion. I got Bridgestone Revos installed.
Look better, ride better, and handle better. Better wet traction and have to do better in snow and mud. I tow a 12K 5th wheel and these are a big improvement.
