Default looking at upgrading my tow rig

i have a '93 bronco with 5.0L, 4 spd auto(e4od) trans, 3.55's & 31" tires. I just bought a 6 x 12 enclosed trailer (weighs 1300 empty) single axle- no brakes, 3500 lbs rated... i should never be over the 3500 limit w/ 2 quads tools & gear.

ever since i got the bronco, i've heard of nothing but problems with the tranny(specifically that model), so i'm adding larger radiator, and tranny cooler. i've also noticed that the short wheelbase is sketchy on the highway when towing, and for that reason i'm considering upgrading tow rigs in the future, but i'm undecided as to what i should look for...

i'd like your thoughts on some of the rigs i'm considering: (all pickups, extended cab- possibly crew, std bed, small V-8, & probly 2WD) dakota, ram1500, chevy/GMC 1500, & f150 as budget is a concern, i'm shying away from new.

also, on occasion i'll throw a quad in the truck bed too...

I would look at 3/4 tons, you could probably get a reg. cab for about the same price as a 1/2 ton. You may want a bigger trailer in the future too.

I have a 88 Ford F-150 Ext Cab long bed 4X4.It came with the tow package, Larger radiator, Tranny cooler, 4.11 gears and stiffer suspension. I run 31X10.5-15 tire's and have added a B&M Transpack, K&N F.I.P.K. Jacob's Ultra team Ignition, Shorty header's and a cat back exhaust upgrade. The transpack really helped the transmission decide which gear is the most useful. The other mod's just about doubled fuel mileage and really added a healthy punch to the engine. I usually haul 2 dirt bike's and a small quad in the truck and tow a Jayco tandem axle tent trailer, approx. 3300 lbs. loaded. I have no trouble pulling most grades at 50-55 mph. The only upgrade I am concidering now is rear disc's. As it is now I replace front pad's around 10,000 mile's just to be safe. From what I have experienced your 3.55 gears will be your biggest problem. Hope this help's some.

dual, honestly if u want my opnion i think you will be more then fine, i tow a 6x15 trailer with 2 rancher 4x4 es, i tow this with a 93 subaru legacy, now i know it slow and i won't set speed records but i drive 60mph just fine, i slow down on the hills but thats fine for me, you do feel the trailer, but i never had any sway issues or anything and i don't have any sway control, mind you i have a H4 engine, with prolly around 120 hp and awd, and average 18mpg towing, i also have 80,000 miles on the odo

the more i evaluate the situation, i'm thinking about keeping it for a short time., at least until mid november/december. i have the fall race season to deal with for now & it'll get by just fine, i hope... the only thing i really don't like is the wandering feeling on the highway, i've heard it's a trait of the bronco due to front end suspension design combined with the short wheelbase. i like the feel of longer wheelbases on the highway & especially when towing, but who doesn't? i'll get there eventually
