Default Need lite trailer. Up to 3 ATVs

I know this has been posted before but the closest post I found didn't mention the vehicle that would pull the trailer.

I have a Jeep cherokee I6 4.0l. I have pulled a 21' Cobalt boat before. I have the power to pull but not really the weight for braking.

So is a trailer capable of carrying 3 atv's going to be to much weight, would getting brakes on the trailer be required?

I have a 350 rancher and a 90. I hope to get a Honda 400 in the future. From the posts it looks like Triton's are the way to go. But they look skinny. Do the larger model ATVs fit on these trailers when equipped with the racks and a winch.

Also I plan on using the trailer for some light duty yard work type hauling. Can aluminum trailers handle this.

Thanks,
Phil

Brakes are dependant on the state, see http://www.roadmasterinc.com/laws.htm for your state ... in IL you need brakes on any trailer over 3000lbs total weight.

PS: Once you pull a trailer with brakes ... you will never go back to a trailer without them! No matter how much weight you have on the trailer!

Thanks for the price info. I was just getting ready to ask. It appears that I am going to get a good deal. A local trailer dealer has a used one that they used around their lot. They will sell it to me for 1200, it is the single axle.

I am hoping the models haven't changed much over the years because. I want to order the spare tire that they show online, the one that attaches to the neck of the trailer.

Thanks for the help fellas. Look for me at Haspin acres soon.

Tandem axle is the way to go. Less hitch weight and pulls better.

Not sure I agree. Perhaps if you are comparing identical short and light trailers that could be true by a slim margin, but typically single axles are small and light and can be pulled around with one arm easily, while tandems are much heavier because the weight capacity being much higher, and are much longer from the tongue to the wheels, and you often end up with 150-200 pounds of tongue weight. The tandem axle trailers I sell simply cannot be manhandled around the lot due to the tongue weight, and I have never seen a single axle like that. I'm sure that optical illusion makes short tandem axle trailers seem like that front wheel would take alot of weight off of the tongue, but most tandem axle suspension linkages are totally flexible, and should make the tongue weight of similarly designed trailers be very similar, but like I said, most tandems are beefier and longer, making the tongue weight MUCH higher, not less.

one other thing to look at is the weight the trailer can haul if u get one with 3500 pound axles (which is nice for the extra weight capacity) but when u have only one or two atvs on the trailer its not enough weight on the springs so the atvs bounce around on the trailer
