Your trailer should be covered under your auto policy because it attaches to it. I have state farm and it is covered in a accident, but I got a policy just for it to cover vandalism and theft. I have an 8x16 enclosed ,it runs about 80.00 a year.

Check with your auto insurance agent to be sure because laws vary from state to state, but all that would be covered for your trailer is liability when it is hooked up to your vehicle. No physical damage will apply except on a separate policy that covers the trailer itself. (again, that might be different in your state and under your policies---check to make sure.)

I live in IL and have AllState ... You must list the trailer on your policy (my trailer costs $110.00 a year full coverage) ... it is NOT covered under the auto policy without listing it.

PS: I've had a couple cops over the past 15 years ask for my trailer insurance card during a stop (one in IL and one in OH).

Check with your agent and the local DMV also. I have Allstate in NY, and I believe you are covered(at least liability) as long as it is attached to your vehicle. If you have a covered or more expensive trailer it may be worthwhile to carry a seperate comprehensive policy.

I have ALLSTATE,AND have to pay extra to cover my atv-snowmobile trailer. The reason i have this is i asked them, what happens if i get in an accident, and total a friends snowmobile that im trailering.Without this extra insurance they wont pay. With the TRITON covered they will.It really isnt that exspensive about 100 a year i think.I could eat the cost of losing the trailer, but i dont want to pay for somebodys machine, cause it came off my trailer.Im gonna add my tandem this year too

That would suck. But then I would expect them to have insurance on their equipment. And if it was my fault I would eat the deductible for them.

The problem with that is their insurance company will come calling on you to reimburse them for their lost.
