Just run the numbers: The '05 1500 with the 5.3L is rated right around 7,000# max tow weight. If you get anywhere near that weight you'll definately want to use an weight dristribution hitch with an anti-sway device.

We have on 06 1500 with the 5.3, and it has the 3.73 rear end. If you want to believe the numbers they post, it's just over 10,000. If you want to see a tralier pass you, go ahead and pull that much, and step on the brakes.

I'm only pulling a WW superlight at 4400 empty. So I figure fully loaded, I can't be over 6000 - 6500. But, I didn't like being that close the the 7000 mark. It pulls the trailer fine, and gets about 10 mpg through some hilly country.

Biggest concern I'd have for your truck is if it has a tranny cooler or not. If it doesn't, I wouldn't make the trip.

You can't use a weight distribution set up on a boat trailer that has surge brakes. Unfortunately, almost every boat trailer that has brakes has surge brakes. The ultimate set up would be electric of hydraulic. Then one could use the WD set up.

Will it pull it, probably. Should you pull it, check the numbers. What does the boat weigh, and what is the truck rated for? Hopefully it doesn't have the fuels saver rear end, or could spell trouble. Remember, if you are overweight and have an accident, the cops may find the driver at fault regardless of the situation. Kind of like driving w/o a licence. Doesn't matter who caused the accident, fault lies with the guy that wasn't legal to be on the raod in the first place.
