Default ATV Trailer with Mobile Home Axle

I am looking at a 6x12 trailer that used a mobile home axle. The seller told me that he replace the bearings on one side and the cost was $90.00 for parts. The trailer was built three years ago and it is selling for about $400.00. Not sure if the axle is an issue, but I do not have any experience in buying trailers.

Thanks

It uses a mobile home axle or an RV axle? Either one is massive overkill for a 6x12 unless the axle came off a pop up camper. Even then it should be fine. RV axles are usually outsourced oem equipment, most manufacturers are using just a few companies for axles. Chances are good you wouldn't have trouble finding bearings for it when needed.

It uses a mobile home axle, I was a bit surprised. The seller had told me he changed the bearings on one side and the parts had costed him $90.00. I also read that mobile home axles are not built for continous use and wear out faster.

I'm not a big fan of mobile home axles, unless it's a kick around the farm type trailer... Usually they reuse the springs, too, which ride rough.

If I were spending all the time and money to build a trailer, I think I'd put a Dexter or Al-Ko axle of the correct rating under it. Most RV's use one or the other, and they aren't as expensive as you might think.

I agree that they should have used better parts. This 6x12 trailer is selling for $400.00. I just bought two new quads and I am on a budget. The closest to $0 will get my business lol...I have time to look so I think I am going to pass on this one...

My buddy has a mobile home axle on a much bigger trailer. It was still too little trailer weight and the axle bowed up in the middle. He cut it in half and re-welded it an an angle where the tires sat flat on the ground. I pulled it with 5 (or 6?) quads on it, and fully loaded it pulled so easy it felt like there wasn't even a trailer there. My 5x8 with one quad usually sways and bounces around enough so that I can tell it's there without looking.
