Should I put wood on my trailer?
#1
Hey I have a Lowes 4x6 trailer with a mesh floor. I will be putting three dirt bikes on the trailer. I got the wheel chocks in today. I was going to just put a strip of wood on the front of the trailer for the wheel chocks. I also got the tie down eyelets. I am thinking that when cranking down the ratchet straps on the bike the tie down eyelets might bring up the trailer floor. So do you guys think I should just put the strip of wood up front for the wheel chocks or put a piece of plywood to cover the whole floor?

i would just get a sheet of 1/2 treated plywood and cut to fit and bolt it on and then attach the chocks it will look better and not sure about your trailer but the one i had with mesh kinda was flimsy you would step on it and it would sag and eventually ended up sagging down permantly.

Hey guys thanks for the tips. Today I got a sheet of 4x8 1/2 thick pressure treated ply wood. The guy even cut down to 4x6 so it fits nice into the trailer. When I was driving there the trailer was bouncing all over the road and making a lot of noise do to the crappy mesh floor. On the way back with the ply wood layer in and just ratchet strapped down it drove amazing. When I got home I treated it with water sealer. This week I will bolt it down some time and then will get the wheel chocks installed. Thanks for all the help.

Sounds like a good plan! I was going to suggest spar varnish, especially for the edges, so moisture doesn't cause the plywood layers to separate. It can be an issue when plywood is repeatedly flexed and relaxed, and the moisture itself can make it delaminate. Hope it works out well, sounds like you're on your way!
