The Tusk 2000 lb winch looks different than the older Tusk models. The 1500 and 2000 lb (in Rocky Mountain catalog) Tusk have a blue **** and metal bars across the cable. The older **** was black and there were no bars. If you've recently purchased the 2000 lb or even the 1500 lb winch, does it have the metal bars across the cable? Also, is the switch waterproof or exposed on the bottom? The old switches were open on the bottom.

I bought a Tusk 2000 a month ago. At least the model that I got, is the same one with the black **** that you were referring to. The "Blue-****" version seems to be the Tusk 3000 at least at their web-pages. Either RockyMountain has placed the picture of the 3000 instead of the 2000 in the catalog by mistake, or then they have changed the model within a month.

Cyberator- Thanks for the reply. Is your switch open at the bottom?

I've been considering buying a Tusk 2000. I just don't use a winch enough to justify buying an expensive winch. I know someone that has an older model Tusk. The thing that bothers me is that the RMatv site shows the old model but the catalog shows a different model. I called RM and a woman told me that it was a mistake in the catalog and that they pictured the 3000 lb where the others should be. But they are clearly not the 3000 lb model. In the catalog, the 1500, 2000 and 3000 have a blue **** and metal bars but the 1500 and 2000 have the original casing. The 3000 looks different with the two nuts at the end. (The 1500 and 2000 are already wired into the end of the case.) The 3000 also shows a newer or different switch.

I wonder if they'll be offering the models with the blue **** and metal bars in the future.

Yes, the switch casing is open at the bottom. I've had my doubts about the functionality, but so far the switch has not any problems. Some boat silicone or hot setting adhevise would be good to isolate the connectors, but that's something that I'll do when the spring arrives. BTW, if you use silicone to isolate connectors, check that there isn't any acetic acid used in the silicone "dough". Acetic acid is really effective in corroding metal....
