DS650 Need Help! Any ideas?
#1
Hi guys. Maybe someone can help me out. I have a 2001 DS 650 with low hours. It is a great machine and I LOVE IT. You'll find me ripping around the trials in Northern WI every time I get a chance. Since I came back from my last trip I can't seem to get my Bomber to run. I am not a pro but a pretty handy mechanic and do just fine with my sleds but I am not sure where to go with this thing and since the engine is a little different than the 2 strokes I am used to I thought I would throw out a question. I checked the obvious - fuel, fuel line, fuel tank vent, spark, spark plugs, etc. I also pulled my carb and thouroughly cleaned and inspected. I must admit that there was a little dirt in there. Probably silt from the sandy trails (or the muddy parts) up north that went through my air cleaner. Either way I thouroughly cleaned and inspected the carb and there seems to be no issue. The bowl fills with fuel cause I can drain it out of the overflow. I can see and smell plenty of fuel and even get a little fuel mist blow back on my hand when I crank it over with my hand near the rear of the carb with the air intake off. The plugs dont really seem very wet when I turn it over though. I even tried to open the carb up and squirt a little starting fluid right through the carb. The only thing that I can think of is a valve or timing chain issue but there has been no trauma to the machine and it is pretty new so it seems unlikely that the timing chain has slipped or broken. Any ideas are appreciated.

It's probably pretty cold there. Try charging your battery up and trying again. I've had two Ds's and it seems that even with the battery able to turn it over, without an absolute full charge it will not work. After I charged the battery, it started in seconds. That and try opening up your air/idle screw 1/4 turn to richen up for the cold weather. Both fixes will not cost you any money. Make sure your choke is out fully also, not just on 1/2 way.
