Diff Locks

Brute 23---I agree with your approach---and yes, that is fun.
Wayout, I will have to say that I got the polaris info from a dealer that was not my local one---the local folks that let me test drive the sp800 seemed a whole lot more knowledgeable but I forgot to pose that question to them. I;ll test them when I go back!
Thanks for the info.

It's ok I asked my dealer the other day about my locker, and he admited he didn't know much about it. I also asked him, if he didn't know much about how could he work on it. He didn't have an answere for that either. I did get a sour look from him too. They must have a manual.

Yes, there are some IGNORANT A$$ dealers out there. You can get more help on the I-net than at a dealer around here. I walways go int there and ask them about stuff just so I can tell them they are wrong or explain to them how it works. It's great, really, try it some time.

I'm a Chevy truck man but I bought a Ford truck, I'm a Honda man but I bought a Polaris. There are things I don't like about the Polaris, but they are less than the other brands right now. My friends who have other brands used to say the same thing, "The rear wheels have to S-P-I-N for the front to engage. " They all knew best even though they had never ridden or even seen the system work. I invited them to see if they could see the rear slip before the fronts engaged. None of them could detect slipage. Now that being said, I don't like the two wheel engine braking. It took several rides to get where I could feather the throttle using the brakes to get it to go down steep hills without being concerned. I've ridden in the snow alot, and it all comes down to rider knowledge and momentum. I like the Polaris because I'm not the best most knowledgeable atv rider and it takes less brain power to get through the tough stuff with a Polaris. I have a friend with a 2003 Yamaha Grizzly660. He gets stuck because he can't keep his locker engaged all the time, (can't steer) so he goes as far as he can in 3wd then has to stop and engage his locker, then he is already stuck. I don't think it's a quad thing, just he is a crappy atv rider like me. I think it's just luck, but I'm the only one who has not gotten stuck, even while towing one of the other atv's for nine miles through the snow. I do have one question, WHAT'S A RANCHER? I thought it was one of those candies they sold in jail. "Just kidding." You guys have a jolly time. IT'S BETTER TO RIDE WITH OTHER BRANDS, THAN BY YOURSELF.

Uhhh, I'm not sure about the Grizzly, but the KingQuad can DEFINITELY be engaged on the fly as long as you aren't going over 20mph, I believe.

i agree with you 100% redmtn. Some people just dont understand. I've ridden with my friend who has an '05 Black Special Edition Grizzly with 27in 589's and he always goes as far as he can in 3wd because he cannot be in locked long enough because its tooo hard to steer. and another thing, the ONLY downfall (pretty much) that i see with the Polaris AWD system is when going downhill. Obviously i live in Alabama so i dont know about snow. But THINK ABOUT IT FOR CHRIST SAKE! IF YOUR IN THE MUD THE WHEELS WILL ALREADY BE SLIPPING, AWD IS PERFECT (IMO) people treat it as if, " Oh My Goodness! 20% Slippage Before it Engages? That is Horrible!" GIVE ME A BREAK .. "YOU NEVER SEE IT, AND WHEN YOUR RIDING, YOU WILL NOT NOTICE THIS! IT WILL NOT EVER BE A FACTOR UNLESS GOING DOWNHILL.. it drives me insane to hear people talk about that slippage, because its not a big deal at all, i love all brands, and i chose my SP700 BECAUSE OF HOW I SEEN IT PERFORM, first hand, IN THE MUD.
Red Goblin, i do believe you are wrong, because i know you cannot do this on the Grizzly, or Artic Cat, you cannot flip the diff lock on the fly, you can however go up to 20mph in Diff Lock..
And ill agree, the 2wd 3wd 4wd option is a heck of alot of fun, and i understand some situations call for having a diff lock, but for most cases i will still choose the AWD.. Maybe ill change my mind once i purchase my next atv very soon, maybe it'll be a King.. who knows..
P.S. - i am anything but brand loyal

Another thing, Kodiak660, something must be up, all i can say is, is that i am VERY knowledegable about ATV's and i CANNOT comprehend how anyone living on Earth could even begin to speak about a Rancher pulling out a Sportsman 700, honestly, i couldnt see a Rancher pulling out a SP400, i had both for almost 2 years and seen them in the same situations, and THE ONLY thing the rancher has is the lightweight if your a bigger guy you can push it along...
MAYBE in the snow, but i still dont see no way in hell, im going to have to travel to the rocky's or wherever and see someone's rancher do more than me. Im not bashing, just being pure realistic, my Sportsman could go through places i couldnt dream of with my rancher (where i ride) with stock tires.. I just do not see how this is possible..
