Griz 660 or Outty 800
#61
Well, after starting this thread I never intended to cause this much comotion. I believe after
doing alot of reading, and not being interested in speed, I have decided to purchase a new
2007 Griz or maybe even a 2006. I know either is a good reliable machine like the Outty. All
have their own problems mechanically. The fastest machine, or hand stands is a waste of
money. I need just reliable power, and locker to get me out of that sometimes difficult place
of which I try to avoid anyway. The additional cost of an Outty wouldn't be unjustified, when
the Griz would do most everything I plan to do. I will dress it up with a 14" c series wheels,
Mudlite xtrs, clutch kit, and maybe one of those seats for the rear rack that also has some
storage built in. I rarely ride with more that one other atv at a time, and most of the time
I am alone. My machine is to be used mostly for hunting, ice fishing, and scouting during the
off season. I believe I will join a local atv club in Norway, Maine, and help them with trail
maintenance choirs, as I am available being retired and need some atv fellowship.
Good rides to all

I'm just saying that over the years of having numerous engine in bikes, atv, and tractors the singles always seem to outlast the twins. >>>>>>
Single tractor? Common sense logic would suggest an v-8 will outlast a 4 banger....I'm not getting the logic as to how a single will outlast a v-twin? I'm not sure you can get a more reliable engine then a Rotax although I'm sure Honda comes close but without the seeming more power a Rotax seems to produce.

I sold my Grizzly for an Outie 800 Max and couldn't be happier. What I preferred was the handling, power, and overall sportiness of the machine. As far as ground clearance, the Grizzly had it by about 3/4", not enough in my opinion. I like the engine breaking of the Outy better. The Grizzly had a lot more vibration but that would smooth out after about half throttle. I think the Grizzly was a simpler machine which may translate into longevity but I only had it for about a year.
One interesting thing I have noticed is that both machines seem to use about the same amount of fuel. The Grizzly and my Twin Peaks use the same amount of fuel. The seats are both extremely comfortable. By the end of the day more people wanted to ride the Grizzly than the Twin Peaks. The Outy is even more comfortable. I really like the Max for comfort. I've never ridden one of the newer Polaris', but the Outlander seemed to soak everything up as well as a Cadillac.
It took a little while to get used to the single lever braking, but I actually like it, besides there is a separate rear brake. I could see if you had to come down a hill backwards, a separate front brake would be nice. There is more storage on the Outy. If you get the Max you get an extra small trunk.
Just my opinions. The Grizz was a great machine and I would not knock anybody for getting one. It also cost about $2500 less, so the Outy better be better!!!! And you get a 42 month warranty on the Outy.
I also noticed that going on steep uphills is better on the Outy as the Grizzly rear end wanted to squat.
Enough of the comparision. The Mudlite XTR's I would highly recommend. They are much smoother than the standard XL's by far. I have the standards and the XTR's and have ridden them both on the same machine (The Twin Peaks has the same bolt pattern as the Outy.) I would also recommend a skid plate system on either machine. On the Outy the Ricochet. On the Grizzly, aluminum products. I didn't like the Ricochet on the Grizzly because the a-arm guards didn't give enough protection to the cv joints.

wow, thats alot of info to take in! I own a Grizz and love it. I was wondering if one of you guys that own the BRP 800 could tell me where the air intake for the belt and the air box is and about how much faster the 800 is than the Brut Force 750 in a 300 yard race.......like how many quad lenghts would the 800 be ahead in that distance provided both were stock and equal weight ridders? The reason I asked about the air intake for the belt and air box is because I rode with a 650 Quest ( I think thats the name of it ) and everyone went through a water hole and 650 was the only one who flooded his out and it killed the engine as well as flooded the belt , In fact it was so bad that he took it to dealer to get eveything fixed back up. I was wondering if the 800 was the same? Please don't think I am bashing anything or any one because I am considering an 800 BRP myself. I have yet to see one here in Maine on the trails and would love to check one out. Thanks

on the Quest it was run right alone the frame under the seat so if you went any deeper than the bottom of the seat then it was swamped! I was wondering about the race thing because I have done a bunch of mods to my Grizz and just got it all back together this past weekend, the only thing I am waiting on is the new pipe and that should be here in the next couple of weeks. After all the mods I was wondering how close I will be to the B.F and how much more I need to do to hold my own against the BRP. Who knows I may never hang with either one of them but I am going to give it one hell of a try, then when I relize it can't be done I will go buy one sure fun trying
