Griz 660 or Outty 800

Oh Well I guess I started a hornets nest. Ok Ok everyone back off until it safe.
I am now retired (63) and need reliable power of which I know the Griz and Bomb or Can-am as they
now prefer to be called. I guess that is good press work. I don't like the high price of the Can-am
and do like the Griz, and believe it would be suitable for me. After all 660cc is plenty of power, but
I like the EFI, and the 2up part alot. Lets face it we ride double alot I don't care where you are from.
When I am hunting it seems I always have someone on the back who doesnt own an atv. This is
one reason I need the power. I am a large person 280, and another person 200 plus put a strain
on the machine. Most machines are automatic now so that isn't a problem. I don't want to go smaller
than the 650 class. anything above that is overkill really. I am just hoping Yammy will put out
a 2up with Efi. Well we will see in a few weeks. Thanks everyone for your responses..

here is my 2 cents
Polaris does make a nice macchine i have seen a few around here....but the only thing i don't like about them is the fact the racks are plastic as is the frount brushguard and the radiater is mounted real low in the frount....if you were going over any big rocks and hit the radiater on one then the ride is over....i am not bashing Polaris...they make a nice looking ATV....but i am not really quite shure on just how trail worthey they are...And on the 4x4 system on them....i really don't know....i am not going to say it is good or bad......but i do like beying able to lock the frount of my grizz in and out as i please.
So there is my 2 cents

Stick with the grizzly. Less money and is more reliable. My buddy has an outy 400 and has allot of probs with it. ALSO, HE and I both agree a regular locker is better. ON a ride this weekend we were going over a little bump about 4 feet tall that was strait up. I could make it up on my fully locked 360 but he couldnt because his tire on the ground wasnt spinning. IT was because the tire has to be able to have some rotation before it locks but if you give it anymore than just a tad bit of gas at that one point you would tip. THats why the locker is better.

While the 660 engine can handle the extra weight, the axles and frame may not...you need to find out the Grizzly's recommended weight capacity because 280 + 200 = 480... and that exceeds my KQ's 380lb capacity by 100lbs... and the Grizzly is built a lot like the KQ not any bigger at all, so definitely find this out before you get a Grizzly, it isn't listed in the Grizz's specs on Yamaha.com though, which is strange.
While some might say this is a saftey precation, I'm a true believer that the given weight capacity on the ATV's spec sheet is very accurate and should never be exceeded, things are more likey to break such as axles.
For example, last year when I first got my KQ I let two relatives ride my KQ together, they probably exceeded the capacity by 30 or 40lbs...and I could definitely tell, the IRS axles which are supposed to be at an angle up to the differential was completely evened out and actually a bit at an angle the opposite way which didn't look good at all, and if your talking about exceeding that by 100lbs on a consistent basis that just can't happen stuff will break....if the Grizzly's weight capacity is even close to the KQ's look at a Outty or Polaris or even AC for two riders equaling ~480.

Bomb makes a damm good machine for most riders, people with little experience can hop on the things and go like hell.
I myself don't like single brakes, I want full locking front end and I want lot's of ground clearence and I want an easy machine to work on. I also don't want it heavy. For me the Grizz has everything I want in the right quanty.
I guarantee you I could take a Bomb rider out and find fault with that jelly-lock front end, and fairly sure I could find places where he simply couldn't make it because of it.
I could also show him that coming down a shale mountain side with a single brake lever is dangerous at best.
I am also sure that I could show him that all that power isn't gonna help in all situations.

And that one lever braking will outbrake any two lever system out there according to the mags.
Went on a ATV trip to Maine last week. The guide who was with us noticed we raced GNCC's because of the decals on the machines, he asked if we wanted to turn it up and see if we could stay with him (he has a modified camo Grizz) because he knew the trails. Long story short we all smoked him ( Mud, hills, tight trails logging roads, jumps, whoops)! He said he herd Outty's went good but never rode one, I let him ride my 800 while I rode his grizz. His words "were no wonder you beat me they do everything better and way more power, thats my next wheeler".
Do yourself a favor test both then decide.
