I have to agree with that. I spent some time on a Polaris and it scared me to death. It was great on flat ground. Rode like a Cadillac. Really comfortable. Had good power. I was racing around and having a great time with it. However when I took it down a moderately steep hill the back end started chattering and wanting to swap ends with the front and the machine started chattering and clanking. I about had a heart attack. For one I about dumped the thing down the hill and it wasn't mine. I was also pretty upset because I thought I had busted this guys brand new quad. Turns out it was suppose to act like that. I rode it around a few more hours and tried to get on to riding it but couldn't. I mean these weren't really big hills some were just gravel drives and you had pucker factor. The wheels would chatter and lock and the thing would get all squirrelly. For the life of me I don't understand why Polaris does their engine braking like that. It's dangerous.

I would change the rear only braking on the Polaris, but that's the only thing I would change. It took about two to three times to get the hang of giving it gas while going down hill, now no problems at all.

DONT laugh, but I have a several year old KING QUAD...(( the original old school style)) with the 300CC engine and it has all the features you want...except for a small engine size, and honestly its independent suspension and and low center of gravity have made it one of the easiest to ride quads on rough steep terrain. Its super low range (( something no other quad ever had)) makes me be able to barely move at 1mph on even the STEEPEST hills...WITHOUT ever touching the brakes, or sliding or chattering. I have douglas aluminum wheels with mudlites and the added inch of offset on each side makes this machine very stable on hillsides. Ive traveled terrain other guys wouldnt even try on their larger polaris machines for lack of stability and the strange lack of braking. Sometimes there is no substitute for fantastic gearing, and low center of gravity

rfcom,
Just don't get a Polaris or Outtlander for one very important reason...They only have one brake lever, you can't control your front and rear brakes seperately. I've seen first hand how dangerous this can be on hill climbs. If your going up a steep hill and your forced to stop, your not going to want the rear brakes ingaging on you, because then your front will come up and over, I've seen an Outty 800 do this, that's right he flipped his Outty 800 they are not a perfect machine. Had he had two brake levers he could have just applied the front's and would not have tipped over.
I recommend a KQ 700 for it's torquey low end, execellent engine braking, Low center of gravity, EFI, and most importantly CONTROLABLE FRONT AND REAR BRAKES with 2 levers.
