In Montana in the winter we have a poker run the trails are ice and snow packed with a lot of real hills and that's wear the problems usually happen. A Polaris is hard to control coming down hill when its dry and the rider is an experience rider . Icy hills and beginners don't go together to good but put them on a Polaris with it rear wheel engine braking and you have big problems .

My dads 97 Sportsman 500 has no EBS at all yet it still creeps down hills if in low range somehow.

Actually, it would be better if it was 60% pressure to the rear and 40% to the front going downhill. I had a 1996 Polaris Magnum 425 and it sucked going down a steep, slick hill. I had to ease it right into a tree once because any pressure to the brake at all would just lock the wheels while I continued sliding forward. No harm done but I usually don't like being at the mercy of the terrain. Everyone else with 4-wheel EBS had no problem going down the same hill. I rode with a newer Kodiak, Grizzly, and Rubicon. No comparison.

Lack of good engine braking was the one of the many reasons I left Polaris after having four of them and many less than safe down hill run aways it was time to leave. The other reasons are lack of power when the V twins came out I had to have one that was a new experience good engine braking and power plus reliability reliability was something that my Polaris's lacked they aways needed work like a 47 jeep.

LoL.. maybe YOUR Polaris' needed work. But i've yet to have a problem with mine over 1,500 miles. And as far as the engine breaking is concerned.. It really ising that big of a deal, i ride with Foremans, AC 500M, and i owned a Rancher, and while those machine's will practically walk you down a mountain, its still not that much better than Polaris. Technically this arguement should never have started because Polaris now has 4wheel EBS. End of story. And TLC, those Magnums were nothing but trouble, and everyone knows the earlier Polaris models had alot of problems.. And you left because of lack of power? lol, i know the BRP has more power, but its not THAT much more. Not enough to compromise all of the other features Polaris offers.. BRP is the one that has to prove their reliability to me. I've heard way too much about their weak frame and HORRIBLE 4wd or should i see 3wd since it takes 6 or so revolutions for the other one to kick in.. I'd rather have a true AWD system like Polaris in the front where it really counts, THAN worry about the back of the quads engine breaking.. First things first. Well JonJon, I hate to tell ya but the Can Ams do have alot more power -- go ride a 650 or 800 and your 700 will feel like a boat anchor. Polaris has so many more features than BRP ?????? Like what???? And PLEASE don't bring up this crap about storage, I mean anyone who does any real atving has some sort of aftermarket box or bag.
Horrible 4x4 OMG are you really serious?! I have put on alot of miles on a Pol 700 and my BRP, in the mud and snow you can't tell any difference in the operation of the two quads 4x4 systems, and that's a fact -- real world, did'nt just see that on TV!

ADC or what ever is not yet the end of the story as far as Polaris's poor engine braking ADC is only on the deluxe Polaris and it has not been proven what about all of the death traps still out their. The biggest problem Polaris has is reliability you say you have 1500mi on yours that's not much I put about 5000mi a year on ATVS and when I owned popos I had to have two one to ride and one to work on.

My dads 97 Polaris SP500 with no EBS has 6000 miles on it with out any big problems , This tricky going down a hill stuff has still got me stumped, I been up down every type of hill in Northern Ontario when does it happen? New improved EBS ? If my old, dangerous type of EBS stopped working I'm not sure if I would care about fixing it thats how much hills concern me.

That sounds about right.
The only Popo that I had that was not a total POS, was the 05 800 I had, and it did not do anthing that the Outlander 800 does not do better. It did have a small amount of extra storage on the popo, but like balgonieman said, everyone that rides big trail systems has storage boxes or bags and once atached to the front rack that extra storage in the front of a polaris is lost as far as easy access goes. I am glad to here Popo decided to put EBC on all four wheels and not just the rear wheels, its about time they addressed that problem.
