Hey, i have a yamaha 400 kodiak, and i have two questions abotu it. The first one, is when i drive it, it seems like the engine reves up really high and then all of a sudden grabs and takes off, like something is slipping, and i was wondering if anybody knew what it was. My second question is about an adjustment screw that is on the engine, and it says if you turn it to the left you decrease, and to the right increses. What is that for?

Is the 400 an automatic? It sounds like your clutch is slipping, and you need to tighten the belt, if there is one, im not familiar with the kodiak 400. And the screw is more than likley the idle screw.

What type of oil has been used in the motor? Car oil?
That is a clutch adjustment, and i forget the exact procedure for adjustment. I think you loosen the lock nut, and turn the screw ccw until you feel resistance, and then go back 1/4 turn....or something like that. You might need to talk to a dealer or get a service manual for the exact adjustment.

You might want to do an oil change, and make sure the label on the oil does not say energy concerving on it. Better yet. make sure it has MA with the SG rateing. If the label says energy conserving, it has moly in it, and moly interfears with the wet clutch operation.
