450 or 700 griz or king
The 450 King is basically a 450 engine in a 700 frame. Where I live you can get a red '07 700 King for $1000. more than an '07 450. (Even less now that the '08's are out). To me, its easier to use less throttle than it is to do an engine upgrade. They both weigh nearly the same, and are sized the same, so what the heck.
The Yamaha CVT is the best designed of its type. The Grizzly 700 has fuel injection and power steering. The Grizzly 450 has neither. If your trail riding includes pounding over rocks and tight narrow trails, you will LOVE the power steering of the 700. If you like mud, make sure you waterproof the electrical connections for it.

I just had the same problem choosing. After having a Kodiak 450 that had seal problems (I also read online and found thru my local dealer that seals are at times a problem with the Yamaha's), I chose the 700 King quad. I had always been A Yamaha man but decided to try something new. The 700 was $650 more than the 450 so I opted for the 700. After reading many owner reviews I found that most love their Suzuki 450's too.
The grizzly 700 is definitely the cadillac of ATV's but is the extra cost worth it? Alot of questions you need to ask yourself.
Good luck and have fun with whatever you choose!

the electrical connectors aren't a problem for the new grizzly, they use marine grade sealed wire commectors. suzuki, polaris, and articat use cheap ones. if you get a grizzly 700, yuo might want to grease the front and rear a-arms. i'd choose the grizzly 700, it will pay for itself in the future, or atleast a yamaha.

Well I just bought an 07 king quad 700. First of all I put my 4x8 utility trailer on the back of it and the suspension sucks it pretty much bottomed out the suspension, I do alot of trail riding and I find that I just spin the tires alot more by punching it up hills with having all the power, it came with really crappy dunlop tires. I like that the suzuki is fuel injected though. I ride with alot of guys that have the polaris 800s and I find that the suspension on mine compared to theres is horrible I bounce around on the trails alot more than they do. For the price of a king quad its good, aslong as you buy new tires right away, if I could choose again I would spend the extra money and go for a grizzly or even better a polaris. oh and as for the power I think that 450cc is enough 700 is just over kill

Couldn't disagree more. Of course if you just putt around and bring up the RPMs every now and then, then a 450 would suffice.
If you ride with other people, and they have a big bore quad, you're gonna wish you got one. Nothing bothers my friends more than watching me jump a log, or wheelie from a stop. Having that power on tap makes it a lot easier to ride, it allows you to wheelie over things instead of roll over them, lets you spin the wheels in thick mud. Theres other reasons I'm sure but those stand out for me.
On second thought, if you do ride with friends you may want to stick with the smaller engine. I noticed my friends don't want to ride as much after seeing what a big bore can do. Nevermind how fatigued they are after a day of riding compared to the luxury of EPS.
I'd go Grizz, its the total package, but if you get it don't be a fool and not get the EPS, and the EFI. Besides, if you're thinking of a 450, the Grizz 700 is one of the more tame big blocks so it won't get out of hand unless you want it to.
