Nice, yeah I know what you mean by couldn't keep up. All this rain we've got lately is making for some pretty killer riding. Can't wait to get to Busco except thinking that I might install a winch first, LOL>

Where i live in CT th ecops are a wholes with know lives anyway. I live right on the town line so each town has to stop when they get to the line or they will get in troble. Its kind of on the outsid eof town so theres never any state cop put thers but i have been stoped and they tel you to shut off the quad. One time the woman wanted my keys but i told her its my propert and she cant do anything to it because i pulled off the road onto private property. anyway they will give you a warning and let u go. When im stoped and if i do shut of the quad my finger is always on the ignition button just incase because i would never in a million years pay a dam ticket. Now our problem isint the cops but new neighbors wioth sticks up their asses who thaught they came to love in a stupid comunity of stuk up ritch.
Anyway stop if they tell you to but if you guna get a ticket then try to make a run for it if you know they wont find you.

I'm lucky. I can ride mine into town. Have to have a simple permit to ride in town but you can ride out in the county as long as you aren't being stupid, riding on busy highways and impeding traffic.
They should allow ATVs to be ridden on city and secondary roads. Subject them to the same traffic laws as motorcycles or whatever else. If someone is speeding or running an obnoxiously loud pipe or tearing around through ditches and generally being a pest then cite them. Fine them heavily. Confiscate the machine if they run from the law. If people are just riding gravel and secondary roads and not causing problems just leave them alone.
After all, aren't they always whining about people using their cars too much. My ATV gets better mileage than my truck and I'm not adding to the traffic on the main highways when I ride my ATV to town. Keeping them off the road is pretty ridiculous when you let motorcycles and any other manner of vehicle including bicycles, horses, and horse and buggies on the road. An Amish horse and buggy traveling down the road is more of a impediment to traffic than an ATV and a bicycle is far, far more dangerous to traffic than an ATV.

Here in NC, you probably could get your ATV registered. Problem is that in order to do that you would not be able to run low-pressure tires. This is the main "reason" stated by the law for the inability to register an ATV. If you were to get all the requirments on your quad, they would have to allow you to register it. Things like turning signals (although you could use hand signals like those horse buggies and such), tires, emissions control inspection, ect. They say it is this way for the best interest of the people riding the ATVs. They stated to only use the quad for what it was intended which is obviously off-road use. When asked about my driving on the road to get to the trail situation, they said that I would definately be breaking the law, but that if it where them, they would not pull me. I think if you are smart and responsible regardless of the law, you SHOULD be fine because the fact is that even if it were legal, if you got a police officer who wanted to fine you, he could find some reason to fine you. Other than that one (or maybe more) officer, those dudes are usually just like, "Cool, check out the dude on the quad, wish I could be doing that right now."
I have written this after discussing the matter with the police officer down the road from me, who ends up after all being a girl (I did not know that). To beat that, she is really into street bikes and owns three cruisers herself. Her and her boyfreind bring them to shows she said. Needless to say, don't think she will be giving me any problems when she sees me taking off from my house to go to the trails.
