Default ATV Tire & Rim Question

Rear stock tire/rim combo weighs 30.5

would you recommend 25" tires + rims at 29.3

or 26" at 34.8. i would prefer the 26"s but is that too much extra weight and will bog me down or not? thanks.

Default ATV Tire & Rim Question

What kind of quad are you looking at putting these on?

What kind of tires are you looking at? How aggressive the tread is can have a big effect on how much they slow a machine down.

If the quad has a decent amount of power the extra weight shouldn't matter. It all depends on what you have. If you replace the rears with taller tires replace the fronts with taller tires too.

Default ATV Tire & Rim Question

it is an arctic cat 400. the tires are maxxis zillas. i would like the 26"s because you get 1.4"+ more tread depth each tire. and i was planning on doing the front and rear just didnt take the front tire/rim off to weigh them. would the extra weight rob the 400 enough that i would notice and should stick to the 25"s ? or is the 26" alright.

25" have 3/4" tread depth
26" had 1.2" tread depth

thanks

also if there is any power loss by going with the extra <20 lbs would a K&N filter set off the imbalance?

I'd expect you will notice a loss of acceleration with either set of tires compared to the stock ones.

I'm personally not a big fan of the gauze type filters for dusty off road applications, and no, I doubt you would get much of a gain. A more free flowing exhaust, intake, and rejetting would probably gain a bit of power, but not like a night and day difference.

Default ATV Tire & Rim Question

is the power loss going to be noticable even? is it going to be acceleration or top end or what would i lose? is it just like adding a 20 lb kid to the ride or are tires a whole different kind of story? i want to make the best decision for my wife's atv. we do a lot of trail riding, but we also do a lot of mudding, we rarely go over 20-30 mph. just need the power to be there in the slop when we need it. if its something she wont notice then i dont even care. thanks.

More weight has more inertia and takes more to get them spinning and to stop them, but I think you will find that aggressive tread takes a bigger toll...

I suspect you might be happier with the 25's, or maybe a less mud oriented/aggressive tread if you spend quite a bit of time on the trail...
