Default synthetic winch rope convert

I have a 2.5ci warn winch on the front of my sportsman 800 and the cable is only about 6 foot long now (really going to help). What all do I need to convert it get synthetic rope on it and where can I get a good rope at.

Warn makes a conversion kit that comes with a new fairlhead and the synthetic cable. It says that it is only to be used on winches with aluminum drum.

I had an A2500. I got 50' of 3/16 Amsteel from KFI for $55. It already had the terminal end eyelet installed. They also have the kit that includes a new fairlead but mine was in perfect condition. I highly recommend the winch saver too. Good luck - it's really an easy conversion.

As far as the winch saver goes, hit a big box store and buy a keel roller for a boat trailer, and cut the two cone shaped ends off. It's cheaper, you get two, and they are tougher.

Or go to Pet Smart in the dog toy section and buy either a Kong red medium round ball or a Tanzania Mountain black rubber ball. Both are indestructible thick rubber with a 1/2" hole through the center. About $7.

2nd time reading this comment & I just don't understand what difference drum material makes. You're never supposed to unspool all your line down to the drum anyways...

I'm not quite clear on that, either, but that's Warn's instruction on their synthetic conversion kit. I don't know if it is something to do with the finish smoothness on the side of the spool, or what.

The pet ball looks like it works good. Here's what the boat trailer roller I was talking about looks like...

In this shot, you can see it on the winch...

HUH? You have KING KONG'S ***** on your quad! LOL!

I was always confused about the aluminum drum roller thing too. I converted my warn to synthetic last year and it has a steel drum. I've had no problems and have used it plenty of times. Also, I was able to stuff 75' of rope on it! For those of us that aren't so good at math.....that's a little more than the 6' michael has! LMAO!

I wouldn't worry about the drum material.
