Default OK to prop a utility quad on its butt?

Hello everyone:

First post here and a proud owner of a 2007 Can Am Outlander MAX XT. After reading various posts, I have decided to purchase and install a Ricochet offroad skid plate kit.

Question for you is...

How best to install the plates?

I do not have an ATV platform... just jack stands and a floor jack.

I know some people prop the quad on its rear.. but that doesn't seem too safe to me and I would worry about fluids (oil, water, etc) getting into places they shouldn't.

So, how would you do it?

Thanks!

Well, when I rolled my Sportsman X2 500 on its side I had to clean a lot of oil out of the airbox. I would get a couple car ramps for the front end and then put the rear end up on jack stands, personally.

Yeah, temporarily it might be ok... but I think you'd be safer to borrow a set of 4 car ramps or whatever.

Your ATV is designed to do just that (back is better than side) without any problems. Yours should also has EFI so it won't cause anf flooding issues. I bought the same skids for my Grizz and love them, had to do the same thing while installing them as well.

Welcome to the forum!

I put my quad up on its back rack, to install my rico's, with no problems. Says right in the owners manual that its ok to transport in that position.

Thanks for the great replies everyone. I really appreciate it.

Now.. how is the best way to connect up with other California ATV riders to find the best play spots... I swear you midwest and eastern folk have the best places!

BTW, here is a pic of my new addition...

Alone with the rest of the stable...

nice machine.

I can't help you with where to ride in California, but there is some great riding here in Oregon if you get up this way. There's also nice riding down around Welton AZ...

It's like the United Nations of quads there. Great rides all. Can't help you with Cal. I'm almost as far away as you can get in New England.

Good luck wit those Riccochet's. I helped my brother install on his 05 Brute and boy what a bitch it was. I went with Pro Armor myself. My set took half the time.
